Obituary

Velda June Hauser passed away peacefully on September 13, 2019 at the John Knox Village Hospice House.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with burial to follow in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will greet friends from noon until service time Wednesday at the chapel.

Velda was born July 15, 1926, in Cooper County, Mo. to Lewis and Lorene Elliott. Velda spent her childhood years in Clarksburg, Mo surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles. These relationships continued throughout her adult years and provided her family with many memories of holiday gatherings and other occasions.

Velda married Charles Dale Hauser on October 15, 1950. They lived in Kansas City and Independence throughout their married years. Velda was employed by Sears Roebuck and Company as the general manager’s executive assistant for over 30 years, spending most of her time at the 1500 Cleveland (Kansas City) store before being transferred to open the store at Independence Center. She was known by family, friends and co- workers as a hard-working dedicated colleague who started her day at 4:30 am to attend to her home and family before starting her day at work. Velda also served at Maywood Baptist Church where she used her administrative skills as Church Clerk as well as serving in various other roles. Velda and Dale belonged to First Baptist of Lee’s Summit during their retirement years.

Velda was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories of her family meals, travels, traditional Christmas goodies and an amazing ability to always remember the family details.

Velda is survived by two children, one son, Alan Hauser, (wife Roxana) of Blue Springs, and one daughter, Rhonda Gilstrap, (husband Mark Gilstrap) also of Blue Springs, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and just this past March her dear husband, Charles “Dale” Hauser.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to the John Knox Village Hospice House. We thank the John Knox team for their compassion and dedicated service and care for our mother and grandmother.
